| As a Chinese, I understand the "new culture" described in Sabrina and Steve's comments. What I DON'T understand is why it is that easy for foreign brands, like Starbuck or Ikea, to make Chinese mid-class' money. I saw a Haggen-Dazs store at Wangfujing. In BJ airport, a 80g Haggen-Dazs ice cream is priced for $35! I feel "thankful" for being able to pay CDN 5 to enjoy a 500ml pack of such "high-end" ice cream in my cozy apartment. : ) |
