| China is quickly becoming one of the most unequal countries in the world. And a lot of that is a consequence of governmental policy. The majority of the population is probably too worried about having a roof over their heads to have time to lament the loss of their souls. Those that do have the privilege, ironically, often don't. They're so busy adding to their riches and defending their bourgeois lifestyles to think about what really matters. After all, as the old Chinese saying goes, money is not part of our existence; you can't take it with you when you die. To make life better for others, on the other hand, even something as little as planting a tree, may well have a lasting impact. |
