| Not a better, per say, solution than Jian Shuo Wang's but another simple and free solution for home users to shut down the messenger service is to open a command prompt Start -> Run -> cmd.exe then type the following "net stop messenger" after which you'll see "messenger service is stopping". To start it again for any reason open the command prompt again and type "net start messenger" This is the equivalent of what Jian Shuo Wang's suggestion. I have had alot of customers call me regarding the abuse of this feature hopefully MS fixes it soon, i like one of the ideas on this page, i think the messenger service should only have ever been for local network machines. |
