I only would like to say that is not true that "you can not say grace without food on the table",because God will provide the food for us,even if you can not see the food on your table, if you really believe in God,you have to pray Him and for sure, God will provide what you need! It's written that even the flowers of the fields are dressed up and the birds of the sky have food...and we are much more important than them to God's eyes...
