"Derailing" in the classical sense is not possible (in contrast to the japanese type, that rides on kind of "tires" till levitated due to the dynamic forces at higher speed), because the car is made that way that it "wraps" around the rails. However, in case of major earthquake with major damage to the guide rails anything can happen, but that will apply to any kind of system!
