Olympic Torch in China What a complicated route!!! Hope everythings is ok! |

Standing Cross Different Lines I totally agree with your POV stephen. There should be done something about this. I know its impossible to make the Chinese Govt think about giving in without external pressure so even when i disagree about violence, i agree about cohercion to make it happen. Hope Chinese people understand this and avoid the Boycott and instead be mature and promote dialogue. Same for the Westerners who just want to talk without knowing in advance... |

Friends Started to Boycott French Products As you just mentioned in your post, it's impossible to generalize and say that French are bad and that you should boycott their products! And of course, what will happen when you have bigger boycotts not only in France but in the European Union, I think that is a totally immature way to react. I think some people who are protibet could be violent because they are desperate imagine all what they have lost, families who are apart, people whose religion is attacked and diminished their traditions and languages are only ok to express in some places where chinese govt agrees and of course the big problem of being educated in a different way and lost ancient traditions trasmitted by education in the tibetan system. People dont choose what their govt do neither the hsitory of their ancestors, because many of the people who are tibetans now, they dont even think its a problem to speak mandarin, because they have always being like that, since they were born some few years ago. Try to think what would you feel if japanese, korean, american or even latinamericans came to your country and changed your old ways taught you anothr language, expressed against your beliefs, even letting you do your stuff but only sometimes in some areas or moments.... when they could think its even ok to be proud of having that culture, but only a little, not as a bigger thing that han culture. I dont agree with violence, but i know also that chinese could be very violent as it has been before in tian'anmen and other big problems and protests, even when the world knows little about them. People in Xinjiang and people in Yunnan and Guangzhou are against some of the control of PRC and they have even went to jail because of expressing their oposition... How can Chinese now complain about other countries being violent? If Chinese are violent against themselves? Its difficult to take parts... But definitively its not ok to do whatever is apart from debating talking and promoting peace and reasonable agreements first... Lets see what happens with the olympics and pls think twice about starting childish measures like boycott or things like that... You think you are being a nationalist, but you can collapse your economy if many big importers of yours become against china now... And i think you can lose more face in this process because you are in the media eye and whatever reaction will be taken out of context and could be very bad... Its your oportunity to show you can lead the world in a better way than US. Hope you can do it because we (the world) need that change, but its important to be responsible about your reactions in order to achieve it... And become a bigger and more respected power in the world. |

Beijing Airport Express Train Quite beautiful! I concurr with you about the design like the maglev in Shanghai and the precious roof like a in-house garden. Just hope it doesnt get too hot hehe! Have you heard anything about buses coming directly from Tianjin Airport to Beijing? I read in China Today, that the Tianjin Airport will share the huge increase in demand in the Olympics time.. What about the people who arrives there, I know you can take the train and it's great, but if you are a first-timer in China, I wonder how will they move to Beijing hehe? Thanks for your insightful info! And great pictures! |

Featured in That's Shanghai From the very first time I entered your blog, I found information that was reliable, complete and ready-to-go. I love your page! you helped me lots to understand and live in shanghai hehe. If you can hope you can write soon about the Sutong Bridge which will connect the surrounding areas in what is called the one hour circle from Shanghai hehe. And if you want I think it could be really helpful (I could help you if you want hehe) to write about commuting between trains-metro-buses in Shanghai Railway Station, since they are all together and that could be a complicated, almost impossible, chaotic experiencie, besides the pickpocket ppl who you have to take care hehe! And the two main exits, one at each side of the train station... Easy place to lose you way! |

Thoughts about Being a Leader Life is complicated and one of the most important but also difficult tasks to perform is become a good leader. Examples are everywhere in the world context and news. Talking about it, I heard many pages and websites have been blocked lately about the recent news on the southwest. Any comments from your side? Thx always for your honesty and information! And congratulations for being on TV again! I will try to see the repetitions=) |

China Price - Alexandra Harney's New Book This just reminds us that there is no development without a cost and all of us, as a humanity, not only as individuals or countries, should work together, shoulder with shoulder to make the impact lower and avoid becoming our own species depredators! |

TV Guide in Shanghai Don't forget to mention that CCTV9 is the English Channel in the CCTV, it's the official 100% English speaking TV Channel, I think foreigners may like to know this hehe. And besides you can also watch it online, http://english.cctv.com/index.shtml It's not always talking about the whole world or with the real information, because it's from the government but once in China it's your most available window to the outside world hehe.. |

Happy Valentine's Day The roses you grew are more beautiful and I think they are really valuable because you took time to make them grow, you took a lot of worries to make it happen and you had the most beautiful spectacle just by your window! continue growing them and dont cut them hehe. =) We have to learn this lesson sometime, it's more valuable what we do with our hands that the "professional" things we can buy with money but no real feelings behind most of the time. CONGRATULATIONS!! Wendy and Yifan should be very proud of having you hehe... A wonderful parent as I saw in your eating-orange-pictures and now with your wife, so lovely! |

Labor Day (May Holiday) Canceled I understand why the government is changing these holidays, and maybe people think that tourism won't be so good, but I think will rather change that! The last long vacational periods in China, just like this winter break just now, resulted in thousands without tickets or paying overrrated rooms and services. If people can have their holidays in different days and as I recalled, tingshuo the companies will make up those days to every person in a one-to-one basis, what could be better hehe for everyone... China is such a big country, it's better to avoid this massive movements hehe and promote the tourism all along the year... And about cancelled and canceled, both are ok, different spellings in British-American hehe. Love... And enjoy this upcoming Chinese New Year! Wherever you are |

World Financial Center Simply amazing! How tall will humans continue to build? Do we really need this? he he ... I love it but I feel sometimes it's just about showing power. What do you think? |

Conversation with IPowerWeb Support So bad for you! I know what you have been through! Why Maps in Shanghai are Upside Down? I would disagree about chinese people having low sense of direction, i used to have those problems, but not my studies or colleagues, they always gave me directions pointing to the N,S, E or W. Maybe in some other cities they are not the same, but in nantong, guangzhou and beijing, it was always this way and also its easy to follow since the roads are named like that.. |

Beijing Metro Ticket is As Low As 2 RMB Well, that is quite interesting, when I was studying there last July the price was 3 RMB and 5 RMB in the Line 13... Many people used to travel by bus because could be so much cheaper, as low as 20 cents if you are student or 40 cents for a normal user with card... Let's wait to see the real impact on people chosing to drive their own cars and traffic... Everything towards Olympics.. Will it be enough? Will it be kept afterwards? |

Fight Between Foreigners and Local I have been in China a long time and also traveling in so many other cities and I will say that usually the people is nice to foreigners, that doesnt mean they wont take the chance if its given to raise the prices or something like that, but usually they will try to make the foreigners feel glad and like the country. Sometimes even allowing them to feel they are right, so they dont get a very disturbed image of the country or people they are visiting. Nationalist that is not product of thinking is the flame waiting for wood or explosives. Its dangerous, will provoke unnecessary violence at the minimum offend and will never be real love for their countries, its like a bad religion or a fanatic who just follows passion nonsenselessly! Hope China (and many other countries of course, but every individual,by personal decision) be able to learn from the past, forgive and keep on... |

Yes. I am Very Frustrated For all the bloggers in the world and in China, this a retrograde step in the culture and not only affects China but the whole world, it is true that if you blog, you should have something worthy to say but why to deny this access to the whole population? Why do they do this....??? Only one terrible but undeniable answer!!! FEARRRRRRR!! They fear the people, their ideas, their complaints. When will the govnt from the world (and obviously china!) realize that if they really work well their people will be truly happy and there wont be any need of being afraid!!!! If the fear is that they know the are not doing things right! Good luck Jianshuo! Pls dont disappear, you are my inspiration!!! The best!!! And let's keep fighting!!! |

Long Detour by Road Construction I cannto believe this! What a big turn around the city! Obviously they should find alternative ways when they are blocking the streets to avoid this huge detour! So bad, maybe sometimes it's comprehensible that people forgets about the rules... if these are not made by thinking people! |

Areas to Visit in Shanghai Thanks once and again for your insightful information... =) Your list is good and really includes a lot of places that anyone just arriving to Shanghai, ought to check! I'll also recommend see Nanjing road during night time and get into any of the eating places around watching to the street. The lights are a splendid show itself. A couple of suggestions about the spelling of your message, just to improve the ability to communicate. Maybe they are just typos.(You're so good already =) ) You need to set FOOT to Pudong. Yu Garden. Most FOREIGNERS like Yu GARDEN. That is the answer to the question: "Where can I find the best China element in this MODERN city?" See you around, Claudia. |
