Where to Study Chinese, Beijing or Shanghai? Hi, I am planning to go to Beijing to study Mandarin for a year starting in Fall. I was wondering if it is cheaper to stay in the dorms or an apartment or even a hotel. Could someone help me? Also which University do you recommend in Beijing? I do not know if Peking Univ. offers a language program since I have not been able to reach their website. Do you believe Tsinghua has a better program? During my stay in Beijing I would also like to intern in a company/law firm/ etc. (I am currently a college student). Does anyone know where I can possibly intern? I barely have beginner's level of mandarin so I'm guessing it would be very difficult for me to obtain a position. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks! |

Inside Pudong Airport Maglev Train The Maglev train is indeed impressive. I read about the maglev train as you mentioned many time in your various posts, but have never associated with the high speed it is capable of travelling. When you showed the pictures inside the Maglev, it looks like you are just sitting inside an airplane. When you showed the picture of the speed of the train, it is no wonder there is no space for passengers to stand. Up until this moment, I kept associating the Maglev as the MRT in Singapore or Hong Kong. Now I realize it is more like the bullet train in Japan. I am looking forward to taking one of these high speed trains and experience the feeling of travelling at about 400 KM/h. |

My Speech and Training Record Jian Shuo Wang, You can call me "Dee". I am Shanghainese. Hope you don't have anything against Shanghai folks, if so don't fit me into any of those stereotypes. I am a member of linkedIn now. I'd like to invite you, but don't know your email address. I am wondering whether you are able to send it to me to my email. It was an accident I clicked on your website. Believe it or not, I got pulled in by you and your wife's happy story. In some ways, I found our stories are a bit alike. My finance is from Boston, and we met in Paris. Now both of us ended up in Shanghai, actually we've been back here for 2 years. We've been talking about setting up our own website for a while now. We are working on it. Wonder if you and your wife can give us some suggestion. He's a teacher, taught internationally for over 10 years. I majored in computer science in Paris, and was just called by a third party human resource agent for an interview of Microsoft at the mid of Jan 2004. I know both of you works for microsoft. I read your wife's small paragraph concerning Paris. It triggered my memory. Three years studying there has changed my life. Then my finace was the managing director of the American Liberay of Paris. I was a student of the American University of Paris across the block. We met in his libary. That was really one of those romantic times. I don't know whether you went to Europe with your wife or not, my experience tells two is definitely better than one in Europe, especially Paris. If not, next time go together with her, and you will help her to make up more than just Centre de la Pompiteau , and Monne. I found the forum on your website concerning Shanghai interesting. Though born in Shanghai, often I found my opinion of Shanghai is sentimentally biased. So to be able to hear the voices on the other side of the world discussing about my child city gives me another perspective. I hope some of my innuendals on the comment of your website didn't offend you. Just jokes. Best to both of you. Keep connected. Dee |

Wendy's Blog Run Wendy Run(to everyone)...With your B-log and your solid connection(s) , I am sure her blog will take off spreading around real fast. At a contaciously breathtaking speed, sort like bird flu, "little starling, fly fly fly..." or even better mad cow, moo moo... We will love to keep up with both of your B-logs, 'cause your B-log is her B-log and her B-log is your B-log. I think so. As to whatever disease, my suggestion is go with the flow, fly with it. That's the best thing. Keep lovely Wendy's "If you love one man right, everyday is Valentine's day" in mind, it's a beautiful day. However, do stay away from Wendy's for now. No pun inteneded.(I don't believe there's Wendy's in Shanghai though, is there?)...Never mind KFC, Mcdonald's then. Sorry, first thing's last. This is my first time I came across your website. I like it very much. Both of you got really huge talents. It's not whose blog's gonna come on top of whom, but the idea is to run and come together at the end is the best thing. This is the second article I put on. I will drop by sometimes again. Congradulations to your lovely wife's new B-log. The tone is relaxing and thought provoking the same time. Happy 2004... -Dee |
