34 China Eastern Airlines

I flew CEA NYC - SHA(PVG) nonstop service. I like it. I took the coach class (I was not on business expense) and the service is better than I expected. Perhaps I have been used to poor service offered by United and American on this route. I would definitely recommend that you consider this flight.

The outbound flight left NYC on time. The inbound flight left PVG on time. The only problem we experienced was when we were approaching JFK. Due to heavy air traffic around NYC, we had to circle around Buffalo area for more than an hour. But that had nothing to do CEA.

I would say, now, for any future NYC-SHA service, I would only take CEA.

33 Everyone is Talking about Stock

Working in Pudong, unfortunately I'm not hanging out in the same part of it. As there is no Starbucks around, I go everyday to the 兰州拉面 for lunch and people are talking about the quality of the meat, the increasing price of the rice and wheat, the rainy day that will help to clean the greasy pavement in front of the restaurant and other common chitchat topics ;-) I guess it won't change a lot until 2010 for them.
Anyone joining me for a lunch ?

Hi JianShuo.

Being a fan of your blog as well as Google Reader, I would vote for full text. The main is reason is that I read Google Reader using my mobile phone with Opera mobile. And I rarely have the time to read your full post as it requires to log on your website (loading time on mobile phone is long...). So, don't hesitate one more second and turn on the full text RSS thread.

26 I Want to Go to India

I just came back from India a few weeks ago. I think the biggest achievement that Indian has accomplished is their democracy system, which had its problems but being running for many years. The biggest failure since its independency is to have inherited their caste system from its rich history. Ironically, its democratic system will allow and pass laws with discrimination, justified by its caste system, against its own people. And I doubt if this kind of problem can be fixed by itself.

15 Complicated Paying Process

I did remember last time when I was in China, after I ordered something from the sales lady,
I have to pay the cashier first and then took my receipt to the sales lady to get my stuff.
These happened both in Beijing and Shanghai, in big shopping malls. I am from Beijing, and I grew up with these procedures, so, when I went back to China, I did not think about it. But after I came back to the States and read this blog. I really appreciate Jianshuo's blog about life in Shanghai. Maybe I should write down some different ways of living between the U.S. and Beijing based on my personal observation and expereince and publish it somewhere.

11 I Got my U.S. Visa

Hi, Mr. Wang, I read your experience at the US consulate in Shanghai,it is just exasperating. I am very empathizing with those rejected and dejected applicants. As I indicated a few months ago for different subject, I would not go to US consulate under any circumstance for Visa for those insulting finger printing and put up with those arrogant consulate employee. People who never come to America always think America is such a great land to visit. To tell the truth, the opposite is true. People in American are just too arrogant for any reasonable human being to bear, especially when they treat the foreigners who lack of English-speaking ability. American is a good place only for whites not any other races. That is my view. May be a lot of people disagree, I couldn't careless they agree or disagree. That is my experience.

From your Visa experience, I also would like to point out there is lots of faults of the Chinese government in Beijing, they are too timid for this matter. What I am really saying is that why Beijing Gov. can not exercise the same tactics to those American who want go to China. Brazil is doing it. Brazilian have courage and fairness in their mind. The Beijing gov. run by bunch of Chinese who never have their own personal experience with those arrogant whites on the daily bases, I meant work with whites and observe them and know their phyche. The people in Beijing are so eager, sometimes I felt, to ingratiating Washington. China never can become a great nation, no matter how long or how brilliant the Chinese History is, unless and until she can shout out "NO" loudly to major powers such as US and Japan. And at the same time , to ACT on it.

I am soooory for the Chinese people sincerely, a lot of time, your own government don't protect you in your own land, so to speak. If you know what I mean.

5 U.S. Paused All Visa Application in China

I just don't understand why so many chinese young people consider studying abroad is one thing they must do during their life time. It is really doubtful that they really learn quite a lot of which they can not learn in China. It is real shame and despicable for a lot of Shanghai family squeeze every penny and dig every possible path, a lot of time, even go out of boundary of Chinese or US law just for their "dragon kids" go abroad. In my opinion, US consulate should reject even more student visa applications for the simple reason that, for the better part of total visa allowed, 70 to 80% of them will stay around even after they have finished so-called "studying" and even they go completely impoverished. On the other hand, lets look at China today, education opportunities have much improved comparing twenty years ago and her academic levels are not far apart from the so-called "advanced nations". I don't mean that the chinese college level is at the same level as "advanced nations". Of course, there are a lot of rooms for improvement. However, what I really am saying a person want to better him/herself, I think China nowaday have far better environment before or during studing and more opportunities after he or she graduated. On the other hands, lets look at "advanced country" like US which I lived for past four decades, from my perspective, the opportunities are going fewer and fewer, and her economy are stagnating, no wonder there are so many so-called "overseas returned" chinese graduating students going back, because there are not many high-paying jobs available in this good old U.S.A.

I just want to disillusion you (set free from one's pleasant and mistaken concept) and do not get you aggravated by those visa agents. China have too many parents with very wrong ideas, they are willing to push envolope of law to get their kids go abroad. That is shame and unfortunate.

(2) Can you also post the schedule from these cities back to PVG, apparently the bus company needs to carry passengers back to make money?
