Xiang Yang Market Again I was looking to buy some bootleg name-brand hiking/walking shoes but couldn't find them in bigger than size 8. I ended up buying "Bright Ox" for 240rmb from one of those many shoe shops on north Sichuan Lu, which turned out to be very comfy, well made and (so far) robust. |

Watch Out Bad Shanghai Taxi Drivers I have taken probably hundreds of Shanghai taxi rides (usually short ones @ 10 to 25RMB) during a few trips to Shanghai and only twice been ripped off by the driver taking a long way when I knew of a much shorter route. So really, they are pretty honest! PS The BBS link at http://home.wangjianshuo.com/bbs/YaBB.cgi?board=PVG seems to be down? |

Pudong Airport Maglev in Depth Does that Maglev really hit 430km/hr as its digital speedo says? I had just spent a week using Bullet trains in Japan (250-260km/hr I think) and I can't say the Maglev seemed any quicker once it hit max speed. Even video of scenery whizzing by shot on both types of train seems to confirm this. Or does all high speed look the same after a certain speed? |

Sleeping Cats Nice kitty pix :) Don't forget to drop into Nekotama while you're in Tokyo if you want to see what a dog and cat zoo looks like! |
