7 Things to Prepare for Visiting U.S.

Wang Jianshuo, you need to let your international readers know the following tidbit of information about the China Merchants International Credit Card that you promoted.

China Merchants Bank offers a card with a credit limit up to 50,000rmb. To apply for a card you will to

1) Complete the application form
2) Provide a copy of your passport
3) Have your company provide a stamped declaration of what your salary is
4) Have your company provide a stamped declaration saying you have been in China longer than a year. Your signed and stamped contract would work for this.

Ok, those are the written regulations. There is one more MAJOR unwritten regulation that I learned only after pressing bank officials for over 30 minutes. The company China Merchants Bank outsources its credit card services to also requires that foreigners work for a FORTUNE 500 company. Yep, that's right. It doesnt matter whether you work for a Chinese company or another relatively large foreign company. If it isnt FORTUNE 500, you will be denied an international credit card. Dont waste your time applying.

6 Chicago is Amazing

Dont miss out on Chicago style pizza at Giordano's, Uno's or some other place.

5 Xiang Yang Market Again

Dont worry too much about the cold in Chicago. Buildings in America are heated MUCH better than buildings in China. And most of your walking will be on cleared sidewalks anyway. Just make sure you have a good jacket in case the Chicago winds blow. Also, a good pair of thinsulate gloves will make your stay more pleasant. Dont bother visiting Chinatown in Chicago. There is nothing special there. Oh, be sure to stop at a Seattle's Best Coffee. In my opinion, it is much better than a Starbucks.

4 Holiday Schedule of 2004

JianShuo,

Do you know the holiday schedule for the spring festival in 2005? I need to purchase my international airline tickets soon.

3 Jian Shuo Wang is Going to U.S.

Dont forget to eat Chicago deep dish pizza. There is nothing like it in the world. I would recommend that you watch a hockey while you are there. The NHL is on strike so you would have to watch a minor league team like the Wolves. Another place you must visit is Ed Debevics. The staff is also purposefully rude. If you like that kind of fun, try it out.

Chicago can be a lot of fun. I am from Michigan and my family would often go there. (my brother and his wife even live there!) You just need to plan it right. It will be cold, but that is one of the best parts of Chicago--the cold and the Christmas shopping on Michigan Avenue. The museums in Chicago arent very expensive, yet they are of great value. Another option for you is to volunteer at a homeless shelter. You may think I am crazy, but you will see a side of America that most tourists never see. And you will enjoy helping out others.

2 Cheap and Clean Motel in Shanghai - Motel168

I stayed in the Anyuan Road branch of Motel168 in mid-October. Although cheap, it was quite noisy. The halls are not carpeted, meaning you can hear everyone walking outside your room. And the doors all slam shut! Needless to say, dont stay there if you need to get some sleep. The check-in/out service was also quite slow.

Another cheap hotel in Shanghai that has a great location is the Pujiang Hotel (pujianghotel.com). It is especially good for parties of 4 or 5.

1 Auto Industry Enters Winter in Shanghai

Is your Siena automatic or manual transmission? I assume its manual with the 78,000 price tag. I am currently thinking of buying a car. Do you like your Siena? Or would you rather have purchased a Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, or GM Sail?
