16 PVG: From Pudong Airport to Nanjing

Hi Everyone. It seems that everyone is getting "quick and reliable" answers in this forum about trips from Pudong Airport to different destinations. As i have been reading for quite a few of the conversations, it seems that the latest bus from pudong airport to nanjing is at around 830pm. My flight departs from the philippines at around 8pm and will land pudong airport at around 1145pm. Is there any other option other than taxi to get me and my cousin to People's Square? Please do reply. Anyone. Thank you. Cheers

15 Google Beijing Office Picutre

I work in Mountain View (not for Google, but for the City Government here) and yes you can see mountains from Mountain View. They are the small coastal mountains along the pacific ocean. I have been inside Google's buildings, it is a great office. The one in these pics looks somewhat like the HQ, but not nearly as nice or fancy. Cool that they kept the same general theme though!

14 Traffic Rules in Shanghai

Actually... French people also often cross the road even if the red is light, and i'm sure they are not the only ones to do that?

Who would be crazy enough that Paris is not a modern city. Ok, maybe it becomes old lately compared to Shanghai.

Anyway, Shanghai is dealing the problem in the Chinese way: not letting people realize by themselves that there is a problem, but force them to realize by putting fines when you cross during a red light. I got caught once so it's not (totally) a law that nobody cares about.

12 Avoid Hong Qiao Airport on Friday Night

Agree, even so at Wed evening. After 10 minutes waiting, I decided to step out of airport area. So lucky, I got a taxi after 2 minutes walking. It is not very far from downtown.

11 Living Cost in Shanghai (2007 Edition)

Jian Shuo, I have reviewed most of your site in the last few weeks, since I learned that I might be moving to Shanghai for one year. It has helped quite a bit in getting a feel for the area. I just got back from a week trip there, but it was a busy trip and I didn't get a chance to look over too much of the area. We haven't settled on an area in which to relocate, but since work will be in Pudong (near downtown and in the Free Trade Zone), I am looking at the BiYun area (or some areas closer to downtown) to find a 3 bedroom apartment. Do you have any thoughts about that area? I already noticed from websites that there are some really expensive villas and apartments. Also, do foreigners bring their pets when they come? My daughters have a small dog and 2 cats. That will probably limit our choices of apartments.

Thanks for all of the info, Jeff

10 A Picture in Shanghai

James: I just returned from a 3-week tour of the mainland and I would rank the top 3 things I saw as:

1) Terra Cotta Warriors/Emporor Qing's Tomb in Xi'an...very impressive in person!
2) Beijing (Great Wall, Forbidden City + more)
3) Shanghai city area and Suzhou city area and gardens (1.5 hour drive from Shanghai)

#1 and #2 are almost equal, slight edge to the Warriors though. Wish I had more time in Shanghai, I only had 1.5 days. I will be going back to visit Shanghai in a couple years for a week or so.

7 Helping by Hiring

Hi Jianshuo,

I live and work in Shanghai, and I too have an ayi. I was wondering if you could give me the addresses of a couple of ayi service brokers. I have a charitable business idea, and am gathering as much information about migrant women in shanghai as I can. Thanks for you help.

5 PVG: Buses to Hangzhou, Suzhou...

Hi, Jianshuo:

You mentioned that there are buses that go to Suzhou. I want to know whether the bus stop is located in the airport or do I have to take airport shuttle to the cities and then take bus to suzhou. Do you happen to have their phone number so that I can get in contact with bus operators. Good service,
Thanks a lot.

4 Old Houses in Shanghai - Part III

My mother's uncle has an old gated single house in Chang Le Road, between Chang Su and Fu Ming road. The family used to have two such houses, side by side. One was sold many years ago. Now I heard it is priced over 2 million US dolloars. I like its location but it does need some restoration.

3 Wireless (WiFi) Hot Spots in Shanghai

I don't mean to put advertisement on your site, but I occationally see your website this afternoon and found there's some question about SIM card, wireless connection with cellphone, I believe I might be helpful since our company is doing such stuffs.

I'm using wireless internet these days, using a USB data cable to connect laptop with Motorola V66. The connection speed is a bit faster than dial. $ are counted by download bytes, not by time. So if you don't download too much things and you won't cost much.

Because my company are renting these things and I don't want put ads here, you can contact me via Email (wjia@pandaphone.com), I'll try my best to help you.
