Victor's Car Plate was Stolen hahaha great story wangjianshou. Ik lived in SH for 5 months, been back in the Netherlands for 3 months now. I found Chinese life very interesting and these kind of stories are great (if you are not involved personally). Another story: I once saw some Chinese people selling small magnets for 10 RMB on People Square, near Nanjing Xi Lu. They were very popular, because you could put them onto the water meter and the meter would no longer function. I guess it saves money to pay the water company. Of course police officials did nothing. Have you heard of this before? |

MSN Messenger Virus Jitux.A I also had this virus. I got it from a friend who Said "Omg is this you (link to virus)" (which the virus made him say) I cleaned my computer as well as two other people who had it. All I did was a system restore. I know quite a lot about computer security, so if you need help feel free to email me at shadow_chiller@hotmail.com These are a list of things the virus did: Sent the same message ("omg is this you (link to virus)") to all of my contacts. Shut down the task manager as well as the msconfig menu. Slowed down my computer. Slowed down my virus utitlitys by making them randomly unresponsive. Good luck to any of you who have it. |

Baidu Post Supergirl, Furong Jiejie, BBS with seemingly exponential post growth... It's all been done before. This is nothing new. I suppose I can understand why these things get so much attention in China... things like this just haven't been seen here before. The Chinese takes notice. The world takes notice. I *yawn*, been there, done that. Out of curiosity, what are the "solid facts that many people in IT industy ignore" revealed by Supergirl? That more people in China have ready access to SMS text messaging systems via their mobile phones than Internet access? Did it really take comparing BBS posts to SMS text messages to derive that? I would think that is obvious. If Supergirl is a case study, it's a case study in how to take ideas that have worked elsewhere and use them in China. That's it. |

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) I didn't get a chance to see it before I left the U.S. I'm not sure I can even find it playing anywhere in Wenzhou. I guess I'll have to wait for DVD. |

Professional Web Hosting Wang Jian Shuo, I've had a domain with iPowerWeb for several years now that I use for my personal sites, image storage, ect. Would you recommend going with a service like that instead of one based here in China? I'm currently living in Wenzhou and would like to register a domain and create a basic web presence for the company I'm working for. I've had such a positive experience with iPowerWeb in the past I'm tempted to stick with them, but thought that there might be some cheaper alternatives here in 中国. Any insight? |

Xiangyang Market - the Shopping Paradise As someone who knows a lot about the design and manufacture of outdoor wear, I can tell you this: Some of the fakes you can find at Xiang Yang (if you shop very carefully) are virtually at the *same* quality level as the brand names they imitate. Consider this: The famous brands only use contract factories in places like China to manufacture their "high-end" products. All the materials originate in Asia, the nylon and polyester fabrics, the laminates, the hardware, and the exterior coatings. The intrinsic cost to manufacture a full-fledged, fully-equipped outdoor jacket with all the correct hardware and surface treatments is *not* anywhere near the retail price in USA or Europe! This stuff is nylon and polyester, which literally spews out from giant looms in China. North Face, Nike, - not one of those brands manufacture anywhere in any economy higher than China, period. Whether it's bound for the North Face store in Berkeley, or any other market, it's made in harsh labor conditions by factories that are squeezed down to the penny by their "high end" Western contractees. I spent a whole day at Xiang Yang, turning jackets inside-out and scrutinizing down to the smallest esoteric detail (for example, the way armpit vent slashes are stitched and terminated under the lining, right into the hot-taped Gore-coated seams - none of which can be seen without removing the inner lining). While a lot of the stuff tourists are exposed to is fake junk, some of it [at Xiang Yang market] is of top quality. With focused bargaining, the two jackets I bought there were just a small adder above the true cost of manufacture. You really do have to be careful, and most of what you will see is junk or so-so. Pay close attention to detail and set aside at least a few hours to do careful research if you want to buy anything. |
