6 RMB Finally Goes Strong

The implication of the methodology adopted for the Chinese basket is that the currency can appreciate (depreciate) by 0.3% a day versus the $. This is not, therefore, just a 2.1% reval, but a move that is potentially more open-ended. ie, it can appreciate - theoretically - by 0.3% a day. The implications are therefore much stronger than a once-off revaluation.

Technically, the new regime is called "crawling peg".

5 Black Day for Shanghai Stock Market

Dear foreigndood,

You can invest in any stocks in China because of your citizenship. The easiest way is to ask one of your friends in China to open an account with local brokers for you.

You can also invest in ADR's in US (which all US brokers will be wiling to do for you), or H-shares of Chinese companies in Hong Kong (SmithBarney can handle this kind of transactions, as far as I know).

Good luck

4 Tea House vs Coffee Shop

OK, guys.

"...spend the night with…" usually means "...sleep with…" (please confirm this with your friends who are English native speakers).

However, since Mr. Wang has clealy told the whole story, it should not cause any confusion in this case.

To LL: here is one of the iced tea recipes:
4 regular tea bags
2 cups fresh cold water
Ice cubes
Sugar or other sweetner
Lemon slices (optional)

Personally, I would call it "suger water".

OK, I need go get a cup of Starbucks now. It's sad that Miacheal doesn't like it... but it's OK.

Happy sipping while debating!

2 Tea House vs Coffee Shop

Both of coffee and tea are my favourites, so is any topic on these two.

Here is my two cents early on (here and here ). I was particularly interested in the prices of Starbucks in China.

Hope to meet more coffee-loving Chinese bloggers here in the future.

BTW, ILH is right. When you say "… spend the night with…", westerners will read it very differently (from what you mean). They are all envious of your experience last night now :-)

1 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

一部不再有 imagination, 只有铜臭味的 Hollywood 商业片竟被我的同胞们称为 Good and Great. What a sad story!
