Backed Up All My Documents Considering the need to re-install an operating system every two months doesn't really positively demonstrate the capabilities of the operating system, does it? :) |

Seat-Belt? Oh. No. Thanks! The 3 common reasons are absolutely crazy! And also the comment "maybe, because we never need seat-belt when we sit on chairs" is not good enough an excuse! The Shanghainese can takes efforts in mimicking the west, but why can't they take on some good qualities from the west, like for instance wearing seatbelts. |

Nanpu Bridge Isn't this bridge that was featured on the Discovery channel, (if not mistaken) for holding a record for being the fastest cable-stay bridge? |

My Drawings in Hong Kong This is absolutely brilliant. Personally, I like the drawing of Gate 15 more than the one you drew whilst waiting for check-out. |

Too Many Entries in a Blog For starters, you could stop publishing OOB (out of blogging) posts. I don't mean to be rude, but just keying in my thoughts.. if your really don't have much to write on a day or are busy, the just dont post anything (for that day) :) Secondly, you could delete/phase-out old/obsolete entries. |

Many People Got Cold Seems like the cold/flu 'minidemic' is not just in Manila alone then. Of the 10 in the office here, over half are coughing, sneezing or got a sore throat.. |

Bandwidth Crisis - Part Two "The Google advertisement on my site has covered all the hosting cost already." -- Hi, JianShuo, wouldn't placing this text under "Donation" trigger users to be "coaxed" into clicking the Ads (thereby violating the Terms & Conditions of AdSense) ? Just a thought.. |

Wayback Wangjianshuo's Blog I like the first version of your blog (like the one on Sep 22, 2002). It has smaller font, nicer colours and looks much more mature than the current one. |

See How Many Articles I Wrote Aline said, "I'd probably spend a whole day to go through them all.".. Oh really? Assuming a respectable average of 3 minutes reading time per entry, you'd spend 2166 minutes to read thru them all; and a day has just 1440 minutes :) |

Last Night in Shanghai On Sunday, August 22, 2004, Jian Shuo Wang said "There are two kinds of rains in Shanghai - one only left dirt on your car and the other washes your car" Haha! That's such a wonderful sentence to quote! I'm not sure about others, but I find it quite amusing |

Shanghai Taxi Colors I remember reading somewhere that one learns atleast two new things each day. I for sure learnt atleast two things today! One of them is the colour "Indian Red" :-) Thanks JianShuo, for sharing with us the photos (and also for fulfilling our request so quickly :-) ) |

Why I Don't Have an English Name Regarding whether John Smith should have a Chinese name (Shi Dawei) in China, I don't think that's a matter of 'should' or shouldn't. I agree with Michael's comment on having an English name does not always break the cultural barrier. But I don't quite agree with the ".. it could be *your* problem if the "other person" has information you need but decide not to talk to you because he is afraid that he might get your name wrong..". --- If the other person has genuinely tried pronouncing your name and really cannot (quite unlikely), then such a case isn't it common practice to comeup with a nickname only used by a few to address you (till they get a hang of your name)? My boss is a Chinese. Initially he found my name hard to pronounce, so he used 'nim' till he could manage pronouncing my name correctly. |

Why I Don't Have an English Name Jian Shuo, one of the reasons I admire you is because you DO NOT USE an English name which otherwise is so sterotypical of so many other Chinese! To other readers of Chinese descent, I mean no offence. But I very seriously think that you should respect your own culture much more than the amount of importance you give to Western 'values'. Having a "cool" name like 'Jason'/ 'Jackson'/ 'Michelle'/whatever .. followed by your surname (Chen/Chin/Lee/Lin/Lim/Wang/Wong/etc) which (if I'm not mistaken) should normally be appearing first .. is most likely not going to earn you extra respect. If someone finds it difficult to pronounce a Chinese/Indian/Japanese/Korean/Russian/Arabic/African name - then its THEIR problem, not yours. Let THEM make the added effort to get the pronunciation right. Don't you think so? I'd definitely respect those who stick to their given names/cultural-values/etc in light of ever increasing western influence. |

Starbucks in a Day - Beijing Version I quite agree with tommy's comments.. you're much more likely to find "real" people in teashops, subway stations, wet markets etc.. the likes of Starbucks, McDonalds, etc, are just for snobs.. |

Longest Business Trip in Beijing Reaching 10,000! Wow! Quite impressive. But how many of ~10k hits are unique sources? If you copy the following to your favorite address browser's address bar, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=link:gBXKu7dv2YcJ:www.wangjianshuo.com/ It comes up with 260 results only. These are the URLs that link to your domain 'www.wangjianshuo.com'. No mention oh how many unique sources, so I searched for your domain on Technorati, http://www.technorati.com/cosmos/search.html?rank=&url=www.wangjianshuo.com%2F it came upwith just 25 Links from 24 Sources Speaking of 'wealth of linkage currency' according to Blogshares, http://blogshares2.got.net/blogs.php?blog=http://home.wangjianshuo.com%2F your current valuation is B$36,773.22 |

Last Google Dance It did indeed. If not mistaken the date was a Tuesday, either June 29th or July 6th this year. According to a classmate of mine, many webmasters were rushing to update their keywords in the 'meta' tags |

Last Google Dance If not mistaken, I had heard that Google was to upgrade its PageRanking technology; and this was sometime around the first week of July. So, thats probably when the last 'Google dance' was. |

Typhoon Mindulle Hits Shanghai On July 4, 2004 12:09 AM, Jian Shuo Wang said : > It is a pitty that I was driving - it was not easy to handle the car without > taking pictures already. :-D On the road, there is always some interesting > scene but I cannot take them. Understandable. Oh well.. Perhaps next year (your wife will have got her license long before then), you can take some pics assuming you are in the passenger seat :) |
