Is 10,000RMB/Month a Ridiculous Offer? Let's put it this way: If you were shopping at a Shanghai departmental store, and decided to purchase a certain commodity which is being sold for say, RMB 50. At the cashier, are you expected to pay RMB 50, or the price of the commodity sold at your country back home? Needless to say, you pay the price of RMB 50, which is what it's been locally sold for. If the UK retail price is say, £10, will they ask you to pay £10 just because you are British? Likewise, keeping this scenario in mind, if you are offered a job in Shanghai, you will be paid a local Shanghai salary. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are British, therefore you are entitled to a higher pay (that sounds pretty snobbish). No, it does not equate to that. Your salary range will be based on your educational background, work experience and other merits. Prove to your new boss of your capabilities. What I suggest is, stick to the company you are with currently, and express your interest, if any, to relocate overseas. That way, not only will you get to stay with your company (a familiar surrounding in a new country), you will also be paid the equivalent of your local pay, or even higher if you are performing, as well as addtional perks and incentives to work abroad. Remember, performance is key. Doesn't mean you are British, Filipino, or even if you are from Timbuktu, you will be treated as a 'Little Emperor' when you work abroad. As the saying goes; ''When in Rome, do what the Romans do.'' |

Shanghai Pudong Airport to Suzhou Hey Liv! I will be going to Suzhou too next month! I will be arriving at Shanghai Pudong airport on October 10th, at 4.55pm, and then going straight to Suzhou. When will you be arriving in Shanghai? Anyway, I've checked the information online, and it seems that that's the only best way to get to Suzhou (Bus to Hongqiao, and then transfer to another bus to Suzhou). It's my first time to Suzhou, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it on the buses, as by the time I arrive at PVG, it'll most definitely be 5pm. I'm still giving it a shot though. Even if I do miss the buses, i'll be able to take a taxi then.My company in Suzhou said it's only RMB300 if they arranged it on my behalf. Although I really want to see the city lights at night :) Cheers, Tracy. |

Pressure is About Expectation Thanks for comments posted by Yo. It's so inspiring. As I'm a stage performer, I constantly have to overcome the fact that I have a whole crowd of people staring at what I do, and probably judging the way I perform. I've never exactly put my thumb on why I get so stressed when I perform sometimes, until now, you're so right - I always try to meet the expectation of others, their set of standards. Now come to think of it, it's such a waste of energy to even to think about that. I mean, how on earth am I suppose to know what everyone's thinking? Of course, there're certain things that people generally regard as "good" things. However, do I know how each person rank the so-called "standards"?? That's impossible. I agree with you that in order not to be affected by external factors, is to have my own set of standards, values. Afterall, it is me they're coming to watch. And the performance is about my own interpretation. |

PVG: From Pudong Airport to Hangzhou Hi Jian Shuo I noted John's email dated Aug 31, 2003. I will arrive Shanghai at Oct 11 17:10 and don't think I can get the last bus on 17:30 to Hangzhou. Is there any change in the bus departure time? I don't want to stay at Shanghai for 1 night as I want to meet my family who arrive Shanghai few days earlier and most likely move to Hangzhou from Wuxi or Suzhou at the same date. Is there any alternative safety way to Hangzhou? Please advise. Tks a lot. Tracy |
