Volunteer for Beijing Olympics I was hoping to volunteer... Guess it is not going to happen because I can't see myself paying for my own hotel for the duration of the Olympics. Think about the almost surely skyrocketing rates... I guess I will have to wait until Shanghai is hosting!! Fei, I see your point but a nice alternative to hotels would be letting the volunteers to stay at Univserity dorms in Beijing. I imagine since the school is out in the summer there should be plenty of empty rooms that maybe the government or the organizing committee can secure for housing volunteers. |

Going to Movie (Cinema) in Shanghai We watched Spiderman II on IMAX in the Peace Cinema. It was great. My husband is also a laowai who speaks basically no Chinese. The regular screens at the Peace Cinema showed Spiderman II with either English subtitle or English soundtrack if I remember it correctly but the IMAX version was dubbed with no English subtitles. That didn't matter though as when the mouth is THAT big you can basically read what they are saying. For most films though it is pretty easy to find versions with English subtitles. I highly recommand watching action films on IMAX there. |

Museums in Shanghai I love the art museum. Another interesting museum is the Shanghai History Museum under the Oriental Pearl Tower. It does a great job telling the story of Shanghai and transporting visitors back to the old Shanghai in the 20s and 30s etc. |
