12 Cheap and Clean Motel in Shanghai - Motel168

I am staying in the Motel168 on An Yuan Road just now. We have a family/composite room.

Here are my comments:

GOOD POINT:
1) It is cheap.

BAD POINTS:
1) the shower leaks and floods the bathroom;
2) there is no shower mat in the bathroom so the floor is very very slippy;
3) the toilet doesn't flush and blocks easily;
4) the maid doesn't provide clean crockery;
5) the hotel is quite dirty;
6) the heating doesn't heat the downstairs of the room;
7) there is no fridge in the room (although the room is so cold you don't need it);
8) the beds are as hard as the floor;
9) the international direct dial on the phones doesn't work;

I won't be staying in this place again. I would rather pay double, even triple, and stay in a nicer hotel.

11 Chivas' Mermaid by Sarah Khider

In Ecuador it has been shown for the last three years and it just doesnt get old. Im not very romantic minded but that song sort of makes everyone let his imagination fly for 30 secs.

8 World Airport Website Report - Flight Info

Right now, this is the only site /web pages talk something related to airport websites, which
I searched from search engine.

As I'm studying a BSc computing and information system course, and my final year project is studying international airport websites.

This topic is rare and difficult to find any prior related research/studies

6 Polution in Shanghai

I recently read an article in an overseas newspaper criticising heavily the Chinese government for pollution in the Huai river area, where apparently many local residents have lost their lives due to cancer from the polluted drinking water in the area.

Apparently the Chinese government likes to say they have programs to reduce pollution there, but in reality this hasn't been implemented properly at all, with local governments that want to protect state owned businesses, and protect local taxation revenues and jobs.

I have a quesiton for Cindy. I want to know what kind of restrictions are there for newspapers in China to write articles criticising the governments actions like this? These expose stories would be good for educating people about the real environmental problems...

4 Nice Meetup with Hailey and Roddy

Dear Wangjianshuo,

I would like to post my comment here, however I am scared the Chinese government will track me down (e.g. from IP address or other means). Can you please tell me if it is possible for the government to track down who I am?

I am surfing from home in Shanghai, using an ADSL connection

3 Volkswagen Polo

Many Chinese people I have met are hypocrites when they talk about Japan. Boycotting Japanese things? Only when it's convenient for them.

Have these people I have met tried to buy quality electronic goods like a walkman that does not come from Japanese technology?
Have these people that I have met never gone to karaoke, a Japanese invention?
Have these people that I have met never watched a pirated Japanese cartoon (translated in Chinese of course) or read a Japanese comic book?
...

Anyway, I don't think there is such thing as good Chinese technology... the car industry in China is from Europe and Japan, the electronics industry is the same, etc. etc.

Adrian
PS I am not Japanese, but an overseas born Chinese

2 If I were a Visitor to Shanghai

oh yes Carsten... crossing the road :-)

my first few days were spent waiting on the corner for a group of old women to gather so i could could cross safely in the middle of them!!

and i loved watching the crossing guards berating people who stepped off the footpath before they should have... they just listened to the telling off and stepped back up to wait... very cool and calm :-)

1 If I were a Visitor to Shanghai

hi Jian Shuo .. i've been reading your blog nearly everyday since before i visited Shanghai in March this year.. i read lots of interesting information that helped make my visit fantastic! and now i read to remind me of the great things i did and the lovely people i met... thanks :-)

the highlight of my visit to Shanghai was riding the metro... just get on and join the crowd, i got off in different places and walked around the streets then rejoined the train and went somewhere else... i visited century park, the shanghai stadium and jongshan park amongst many others... i felt very safe and very accepted...

i spent quite a lot of time around huaihai lu walking... and in nanjing lu near jingan temple..

but really for anybody from outside china (i'm from a town of only 30000 in aodaliya!) the huge city of Shanghai is full of amazing sights, sounds, smells and tastes!

cheers
