Why I Keep Losing Stuff For many years, I have wondered whenever I have seen a lone shoe lying by the side of a highway. Where could a shoe come from by the side of the road? Perhaps this phenomenon is related to your missing shoe. :) |

Shanghai Public Transportation Card What is the "pocket of treasures?" At a guess, I might say the front pocket of a person's trousers, but am not at all familiar with this phrase. |

Second-Generation Identity Card "I don't know if there's any other country in the world that would charge the public for their first (or to upgrade to "new generation") id card." In the United States, there is always a fee, which varies by state. In the state of Pennsylvania, where I live now, the fee is $10 (about 68 yuan) the first time, and every time you renew it (about every 5 years, unless you change to a driving license, which costs more). In California, where I come from, it is $21 ($168 yuan), although you can get one for only $6 (48 yuan) if you can prove that you have a very low income. Is there any country where there is no charge for the official ID? I think having to pay is more common than getting one for "free" from the government. |

Kijiji New Platform Went Online I read your English blog every day, thanks so much for your efforts to bridge the gap between our worlds! But I am a little sad today, because I cannot read the kijiji site. Next month, though, I start to learn Chinese in school, so someday I hope to be able to truly appreciate both worlds! |

South Railway Station Pictures They are beautiful pictures, thank you for sharing them. I also like the waves of grass, and the brick garden with places for people to sit and enjoy the outdoors. You will hardly ever see such a thing at a train station here in the States -- I think perhaps authorities would not see the point, or would be too fearful that the space would soon fill with homeless people and become a nuisance. What kind of people in Shanghai will use the park spaces? |
