Train Tickets in Shanghai Railway Station Hi, I woudl liek to go by sleeper train from Shanghai to Haikou. I know it takes 30+ hours but I think it will be a good way to see China. Has anyone here done this journey before? Any suggestions when, where and how to get a train ticket? Many thanks, Ian |

Thanks for your Comments It is really interesting to come across you bolg when I search "go back to China" on Google. The pictures you posted about luoyang are so familiar to me. I enjoy them very much. That is the place I spent more than ten years. I lived there and once worked in the factory behind the statue. But I haven't been there for a couple of years. Rent an Apartment in Shanghai Hi All Looking for the obvious, I travel to Shanghai regulary and rent an apartment in Lu Jia Bang road ... great location near bridge and shops. I want to buy a local small apartment, not neccessarily in this area but similar populated district - small neat preferably walls constructed from precast concrete (easy to renovate) only need one room plus inside toilet/shower. any condition, can rebuild as long as it is structurally sound. ie: walls floor roof good condition - with the obvious price of cheap cheap! email me with pictures if you have any places that may fit the description . email : irkdraft@hotmail.com Thanks a lot .. oh! and great blog! keep on blogging cheers Ian |

However, if you give your IP address to someone and ask them to access it - it WILL work anyway. It has for me! Hope that helps. Mail me if not. |

Mobiles in China - My Personal Perspective Mr Jian I have read the comments about the pre paid cards but am still a little confused. I will be arriving in Shanghai shortly and really need to be in touch with Australia using my mobile for international phone calls and sms. Does the prepaid Shenzhouxing sim card enable me to do this? If not what do you recommend as the best option? |

Why I Don't Have an English Name As a western ex teacher of often reasonably large groups of Shanghainese students in recent years I found that it was virtually impossible for me to remember all my students Chinese names. I greatly valued the student's Chinese names. I think it allowed me to get to know the students quicker. In time I did learn many student's Chinese name. It was a convenient way to be able to address each learner quickly without the initial difficulties of poor pronunciation...Interesting topic of discussion. |
