My Home Goes Wireless Just a comment for James regarding wireless products. The radiated transmission power of many wireless 802.11 products is quite low. Much lower than that used by your mobile phone. In an indoor environment, many Wifi products also allow you too drop the transmission power. So you can further reduce any radiation. There have been numerous studies about the effects of wireless transmissions on humans. To date none are conclusively for or against. Having said that, none of these studies consider long term effects as mobiles are a recent phenomenon. You are more likely to be affected by overhead power lines and transformer base stations and even your TV. ;-) However, as a wireless researcher, my personal feeling is to use my mobile phone as little as possible. But Wifi seems safe enough. kind regards |

Hand-Made Map of Pudong Area Hi there Jian Shuo, Im contemplating moving to Shanghai in the next 2 months. The place Im thinking of working at, is located on Ningqiao Rd. Roughly in the middle of the following map: http://home.wangjianshuo.com/scripts/map/4800.2200.htm where the "777"s are. I was wondering where is a good place to look for accommodation that is both reasonably close to this area and close to more interesting areas of shanghai (possibly Pudong). Im not really looking to be in an area full of westerners. But would like to be somewhere reasonably pleasant and not too expensive. Living Cost in Shanghai Hi all, Nice blog! Im considering moving to Shanghai. Im in discussions with an international company that is based in Shanghai. During my discussions the issue of "what package" do I want came up. I work in telecommunications R&D and have a recently finished a phd. Can anyone suggest what is an acceptable package to ask for in Shanghai? I know there are alot of factors to consider, but some rough advice would be good.
