54 Leave Home Early to Avoid Traffic Jam

what about forget the car in the car park and take public transport such buses and metro

its true that if you do not use the car your will not show to people that your own a car (status symbol), but if you do not drive yoru car and go with public transport, you will do to you and to all the following:

1) save petrol money bills in your pockets as well save the cost of car usage
2) most important of all save pollution to you and and everybody, as the not only the choking smokes of yoru car, but all the petrol plastic and pollutant material used for a car will be less consumes.. so finally you will help the world
3) dicreasing the consuem of petrol, will help to decrease wars, in example Iraq, Afganistan, durfur....

so think... instead to wake at 5.... take the subway.... you do a favour to you first and to everybody ...

46 Shanghai not as Safe as Before

yes shanghai is quite safe for crime issue... compared to other cities in china or oversea...

shanghai is not safe at all and very dangerous for the strong and cronic air and water pollution... the air is full of microdust particels... water its just scarsely good for shower... (pls do not cook using tap water)... vegatables, meat, fishes are full of chemicals and antibiotics... often forbidden in europe...

but enviroment .. pollution seem a joke that they like to write on the papers but 1st from Chinese people and then governament no one cares.. they all busy making money... buying cars (in absurd and everyday worst traffic) and playing with the giant bubbles of the property market and A stock market....
just wondering when these 2 speculation bubbles will blow what will do the mass that has invested there using bank loans.. ?

cheers mate.. but with foreing beers as the local is made with water from a creek out of a paper mill or worst a creek from a chemical factory.... (i challange anyone here to find a "real unpolluted river" in china...

43 Shanghai is Coooold

so some is proud to be chinese, another is proud in being an american... what it does mean.. where they stand... ?
to be proud of Vietnam or Iraq for the american, or to be proud to the misfacts and human tragedy happen few yrs a go in the biggest square of the capital "BJ" ( pls note a way to avoid the censor spider software :-) ) and said loudly i am proud to be chinese.... ?
shall a japanese be proud of beign born so, or shall he/she proud remembering the rape or massacre of nanijng o the nuclear mass killing of nagasaki..?

Shall we all be proud and happy to be humans ? so we can use taxi when it rains, open air con when its cold, and PROUDLY help to increase the pollution, as at this stage within 20yrs water... simply pure drinkign water will become a rare things (Bj got serious prolem as even the biggest lake which is a main capital water supplier, 2 days a go was reported, got a serious pollution warning)....

Honeslty speaking, i am happy to be born human, careless what is my nationality, as i born in this globe for sure not on Mars but if it was there i would not mind and i feel very pity... for who all shout out I AM PROUD OF BEIGN OF MY NATIONALITY... hitler used it for the arian race... persian, mecedons... romans... siamese... khmers, incas.. used to say so over centuries.. history... teach us, that any fool who shouted i am proud of being of my country... as usual ... miserably failed ..

au revoir... a bientot

42 I am not a Big Fan of Hate - Part II

Shanghai people or Beijing people, which is better?"

without offence after working and living in shanghai , for over 4 yrs, i shall admit the the word xiao nin make sense and its not a racial issue, but a mark that show how certain people are developed or not... sorry for the non shanghainese... but we cant hide the true...

actually being a lao wei and according to the concession that anyone who is not from Shanghai roots is a Xiao Nin, i suppose to be a farmer, but then the shanghainese admit that not all the lao wei are xiao nin... definetely a northern mentality, style of life, way of dress, system of thinking, learning times and quality and quantities, definetely show that there is the difference.. and nothign can hide it...

once again pls no offence, reality is never an offence, but a point of improvement.

37 Swensen's in Xujiahui

"They offer good Italian Noodles as well"

misleading info. Swensen, enfatize his ice cream as recipe from nord europe (italy is located in south europe, sicily was who invented ice cream, as it was elaborated from Macedons who had shredded ice flavoured with fruit.. then Egyptians), what its called, Italian noodles they shall be spaghetti! and not... the noodle at swensen are simply horrible, disgusting..., somethign that i would not give even to my pet.... and most of all absolutely nothing to do with real Italian noodle, nor the noodle making, nor the flavour or cooking system...
most of people knows what italian noodles are :-)... such consideration look like if i shall say that mc donald offer good cantonese sandwiced beef bun.... :-)

In Byun lu there is 3 places where they offer real Italian noodle one is just open restaurant close to the the SPA after the Diamond court, one is a restaurant on the back of Blue Frog called Cameo, and then inside the "uameda" on the Xin Jin Qiao Lu.

i do believe that such consideration is due to have learned US poor culinary culture and mixed it up witht the great culinary culture from Europe.. no western food is not what the US fast food chain are trading in china that is absolent junk food.. that made majority of US citizen overweight and with lots of healt trouble...

it was outrageous as the MOB, who woke up in a new wave of moralism, seem to look back at the middle age hunt for the witches.... come on guys.. get a life !

we all know that there is people who like anbd enjoy sex, love, romance or whatever..
in every society and culture there is adultery..... in every society or culture there is sex-brain-damaged persons same this chianbounder.. so what.. who are we to hunt for him ?????? are we the sheriff of society or culture ???
guys get a life .. and let this china bouder perish by himself...

as well it may be that this british or what.. fellow is a simple lvoer of the "infamous" barber shops that are spread around SH or Ch as ants... so actually what he does.. he just spend over all his income in paid 5 minute quick cheap and unhealthy sex.. again so what ? he happy ? fine let him be happy for his stupidity... again no one has the right to hunt him, no one.... this is a concept of freedom....

29 Shanghai Buses

question remain, bus timing and regular stops over... certainly not a shine point.... :-)

i live in PD, 987 is my bus which i can take if lucky twice a week, as it suppose to pass at my stop at 7.30 approx... but sometime arrives at 7.50 sometime at 7.20 and then show up at 8,10. sometime 2 bus attached of 987 arrives together ,meanign that the early one missed somehow... something.... so it travelling attached the next one, then after a while get lost again..... :-(

i rembember in other cities such Geneve, Milan, Munich, at the bus stop you have the timing schedule and if not "act of gods" happen, not later then 5 min. the bus was coming"...

so now a days what i do, i go to the bus stops on time... wait no more then 10 min if nothign show up onthe orizont ( 987 is a nice yellow bus) , then i pick up the first taxi...... without gettign upset , let call it SH bus philosofy :-)

they told me there is another 2 buses that does my route, but they got no number, Just CH characters, obviuosly as Lao Wei my CH is very poor, so simply forget them...

28 Too Many Entries in a Blog

2stly to reduce the "getting lost" entry OOB, fligth details, and this things shall be avoided, its ur blog right, , u may decide what u prefer to write right, but inthis case, same Wendy friend when entering ur blog, usefull info, are lost in a sea of non usefull posts.

instead to get a the flight scehdule to Qindao in expample is more usefull to find out a website or phoen number in english and/or Chinese, that will give the flight schedule of any available city, much more usefull to the majority if readers, when if u post only Qindao it is usefull to only few or maybe none of the readers.

as well try to give code to the blogs titles easy to find them on a web search, ie. for Flight Info or Train Info or Subway Info in Shanghai, it could be SH ( which mean Shanghai) TR (Transportation) so it will read SH TR New Subway line 8 open...
or SH TR new South Railways Station Open or SH TR Flights from/to Bejing.

therefore will be more easy for the new comer or us reader search for info on Transportation, health, gov offices, or enviroment issue ( this not need never read up to date a blog on enviroment :-) ), or other major topic....

25 Fake Market in Shanghai?

my opinion remain as long brand items are keeping trading their products from 6 to sometime 20 times higher the proper retail market value of the product there will be always a fake market, the same remain for dvd and software, the real cost are much cheaper but firms, brands enjoy huge profit, and some of those big brands often ar eaccused of subcontract their production to South American, or Asian local factories who use child labour or slavish conditions for employes, therefore i welcome always a fake market, as its needed to counter big brands and firms trading arrogance.

still dont knwo where is the new fake market anyone may tell me ? going to holiday soon and wish to take the usual presents to friends

24 How Many Hotels in Shanghai?

Most probably Jian Shuo , is nto very familiar witht he Iternational Hotel situation in Shanghai, that range from3 to 5 + stars, number of rooms, charge per room, as well what is the future developement.

anyway, i believe if before such blog post Jian Shuo would have consultated IBHS, anyway at the present room from 4 star to 5 stars available in Shanghai recorded by IBHS are almost 20,000rooms, operated by 46 internationally reconized hotels (i mean there is much more rooms, or service apt out there, but lets say the one that have subscribed to IBHS at the moment are onyl 46 hotels), as well there is much more hotels who didnt agree to be recorded by IBHS therefore the total rooms between 3, 4 and 5 stars in Shanghai are over 80,000, this means 3 star average room charge 350 to 600rmb, 4 star room charge from 600 to 900 rmb, 5 star room charge from 900 to 2,500rmb....

as well before end of 2006 ( i mena in the next 6 months there will be more rooms/hotel opening, schedule as follow

dec 2006 2500rooms
before end of 2007 another 5000 rooms
before end of 2008 another 14,000 rooms

as to say hotel are coming as mushrooms in this wet and humid metropolis :-)

sometime, need a bit fo research to ensure we give reader corect informations :-)

by the way we ( who live in Shanghai) shall thanks the last typhoon as from yesterday we can see the first blue sky of the springsteen and summer season... as u see pollution every year is more heavy and heavy that whine Bj and Sh becoem one of the most polluted cities inthe globe...., lets hope more thypoon will pass so we can brief more fresh air... :-)

obviously today its better of yesterday, as qindao flight schedule was very educative.

21 The World of Different Rules

Dave,

USA law is very controversial, it correctly forbid bribes, but if u dont pay 10% to 20% TIPs to waiters, better you ever dont show up, in the same restaurant.
Isn't this a forced bribe what u call TIPS ????

as usual USA has always a very strange concept of law and freedoom! As in USA if a criminal, rape, torture and kills anotehr human being is correctly jailed for life, or sent to death penalty, but if a US troop, rape, torture, kills innocents humang being outside USA, if the unlucky they got few yrs jails, otherwise not even that.

congratulation Jian Shuo,

there is post which i didnt agree, post i like, this one up to date is the best i red on my personal opinion.

i shall say that after 16yrs as Lao Wei in S.E.Asia and China, i feel that lots of foreign company failure has been due the wrong approach tryin to impose their rules to the local standards... they didnt melt and mingled with the local rules, they try to impose their ones.. and miserably failed.

anyway my personal opinion is much more libertine:

"The first failure of a Rule is to be a Rule by itself as well and try to impose itself"

18 Lunch at Papa John's

Hi Jian,

Byun lu in in Jin Qiao International district, i live and work here, so sorry for the geographic remark.

Papa Jhones doesnt make really good busines, as well quality is a classic USA culinary Mickey Mouse fatty food concept, taste of coruse much better then pizza hut, but very far from real pizza is just a greased overproofed bread with some topping, all good to get obesity, and cause all the disease of JUNK food.

They got very bad planning, as when they open in Byun Lu Jin Qiao International District, they even didnt knwo the next lane name and home delviery was a mere disater, fianlly seem they improve, delivering their fatty topped bread, that they called pizza, but has nothing to do with real pizza....

its pity and interesting how the mass found anything from USA good, looks like an blind idololatry, when actually yes USA did some goods, but by majority they produced and exported bad things, such the culture of mass junk food, wars...
