10 Broadband Internet Providers in Shanghai

I asked a question on this page in 2005, and I've been in Shanghai since then. I had an ADSL connection from China Telecom at one point, but due to awful customer service at their office, I since switched to OCN cable internet. It's fine most of the time for surfing and downloading files, but my online poker has suffered from untimely disconnections.

It's about 120 yuan a month, 1200 for a year or something.

It's not great, but I've found it acceptable for the most part, although I'm thinking of going back to the ADSL connection.

7 You'v Got (Registered) Mail!

I am enjoying living in Shanghai, but I couldn't disagree with JJ more. Shanghai has the worst customer service I have encountered anywhere in the world. This is no defense of the US - New York was the second worst.

6 Meetup: Future Idea Foundry

I won't call Pandora a vertical search engine, otherwise they couldn't scoop the $12mil funding.

They are more like a music platform that help independent musicans sell their music, an Itune will some intelligence. They help you to discover songs you may like (based on songs you already like) and then to purchase. They have 30 somthing full time well-trained musicians to tag or categorize all the songs, or "finding the DNA of songs" according to themselves. This business is lucrative!

4 Broadband Internet Providers in Shanghai

Thanks, this is pretty useful information for someone like me who can't speak Chinese.
Hopefully I can get ADSL installed soon.
I have a related question - there is a cable hanging out of the wall in the the study of my apartment. There is an unused phone input nearby. Looking closely at the cable, it has LAN printed on it. There is no LAN setup in my house - does this mean my apartment has already had ADSL or cable installed, and they simply used a LAN cable when wiring things up?

3 Business Trips

Hi WJS,
Fanrong Kezhan seems interesting for us, if we happen to arrive in Beijing during our journey. Do you have any contact details of this hostel, and can you recommend a few more names of similar places in the central area of Beijing?
Thanks in advance.
Li.

2 Shanghai Enters Rainy Season

Hi WJS,

We will be in Shanghai this Thursday and this is our first time to see China, meaning that we would not like to get an unpleasant first-impression because of the rainy weather.

Would you mind giving us some tips, if any, about getting around during these rainy days? And is it the same weather in e.g. Hangzhou, Suzhou, Nanjing, etc.?

By the way, your site is very useful. It seems honest about things. Good work, and thanks for that.

Regards,
Li.
