5 How We Can Help?

Firstly I'd like to express all my sympathy to the victims in this horrible earthquake.

I'm glad we're given a chance to help the people with money, since this is the best (and probably the only reasonable) way to help them for the moment being.

I DO HOPE that THE MONEY WILL REACH THEIR DESTINATION. Don't call me a paranoic, we've seen a lot of abuses of donations. In this hard times of pain many people want to help, but there're also few people that would like to exploit the disaster for their own benefit.

So, maybe there're few more things Chinese could do to help the victims of the earthquake:

- to observe and make sure the money are used reasonably.
- to make sure those who are responsible (being tipped) for the bad quality of the buidings take the responsibility for it. Otherwise the next time it happens the buildings will collapse again.

4 More Accidents in 2008

...and you forget one more thing - the snowiest winter for some years around in China, just around the spring festival.

I think you should consider 2 very important things though:

1) Many accidents happen not only in China. The rate is increasing in the whole world as well. There're more cars than before, drivers are less careful and more anxious, there're much more people travelling and commuting every day. More to it, due to the global warming there're more natural disasters - floods, hurricanes, blizzards, droughts and so on. The funny thing is many people think it's a local event conserning their country, but unfortunately it's all around.
It's the price of living in a globalising world lead by capitalism, egoism and CONSUMPTION.
And it's not only in China.

2) This year China is holding the Olympics (as you all probably know). Chinese government had endured a lot of criticism about the freedom of speech, so this particular year they gave a "human look" of the press. This means even if the same things happened last year, this year they will be more spotted by both Chinese and the whole world.

3 Error in Western Media Report about Tibet

Every time I try to talk about the Tibetan issue with a Chinese I get the same question:

"HAVE YOU BEEN THERE?"

Heck, no. I am simply not allowed there. Nor was any journalist.

Chinese authorities act like they're guilty for something. It stinks. It makes people from the west think there's something terrible going on in Tibet.

No matter whether it's true or not, how could we believe since you couldn't let us see for ourselves?
Excuse us for our lack of trust but we're simply not as trusting as ordinary Chinese are.

One Chinese official said on CCTV: "Western media should learn to respect Chinese values before they're allowed in Tibet. They should learn to say the truth"

This is ridiculous. I'm more prone to believe that the Dalai Lama is nothing more but a corrupted CIA agent whose interests are anything but "spiritual". There're so many prooves for that. In stead of showing them to the world or proving a point, the chinese authorities play an offended young bride.

SO STUPID!

2 Your Opinion about French Revolution

I'm very disappointed to see so many Chinese trying to dig up something dirty from the French history in the last 1-2 weeks.
I am NOT saying you are such a case.
But it did make an impression to me, slogans like "Jeanne d'Arc is a filthy whore" or "Napoléon is a pervert" which have been in the Chinese cyber-space or even on the streets.
And now you dig around French history too.

I can't understand this hatred towards the French. Yes, they had several protests against the Chinese policy. Yes, they had a security breach which lead to a big embarrassment.
This made the French more despised than the Japanese who have robbed, murdered and raped the Chinese so many times.

Does that make any sense?

At least to me - no. Sarkozi made an official apology to China. The president of the French olympic committee went to China and officially apologised to Jin Jing herself. French business high-ranking managers claimed they had nothing to do with those protesters. The President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso went to China shortly afterwards to ensure the Chinese president for the umptienth time that the EU regards Tibet as a part of China and that they would not support any change of the current boundaries.

And yet, the Chinese public opinion was not changed and little was done to soften the tone. It became a matter of pride and patriotism in China to resent the nasty French that "want to see China divided".
It seems to me that some Chinese just need to hate someone for the sake of it.

I was in France last summer; there're quite a lot of Chinese in Paris. They seemed pretty happy. Of course I haven't spoken to a hundred people, I'm just talking about those who I met. They faced no racial prejudice, at least not more than in the rest of Europe. In many parts of France Chinese language is taught in schools and well-respected. (Well, if you ask my opinion about it, French don't speak good Chinese, but it's another story...) And, as a whole, there's much interest about the culture of China, the medicine and the people.

However all that simply didn't matter. Most French people don't even have any idea of how much their "rating" has fallen in China. Simply because they feel as if they haven't done anything wrong.
Yes, there was an accident and they apologised.
So, why bring the old story again?

I'm sorry, maybe I was off-topic... I hope you don't boycott Bulgarian products because of it (I just made you look at the map didn't I?)

1 "Love China" Blooms on MSN Messenger

Hello~
By the way I saw those in skype too. They're spreading pretty fast, though the shape is different - it's the Chinese flag in the shape of a heart.
Anyway, I don't know about all, but the people that I know with such a heart as an avatar were not the usual trolls you find in forums that yell nazi slogans. They're just simple folks that have been dreaming of the Olympics and that don't want to see their dream ruined, that's all.
Maybe I'll put such an avatar too, although I don't support China in general - I just support it this time because I think they're right.
By the way, I'm from Eastern Europe, and I'm not an ethnic Chinese.
For the guy that said Chinese were all the same - well, of course. Why are you surprised? It's a part of their culture and call it charm if you want. And being a part of the "herd" has helped them survive through the years.
Think of it that way - they might look and think all the same way but at least they're so much different from us. This is how they are "different" - not from each other but from the West.

And just for the protocol - I came here following a link from BBS news. So, BBS is not that much bad after all:)
(though they're biased towards Russia and China, I must admit that...)

Anyway, let's not forget that the Olympics are about peace. So, why don't we shake our hands and show what we could do on the stadiums?
