Longest Business Trip in Beijing i usually get a copy of "that's beijing" magazine from the hotel frontdesk. there are suggestions on restaurants and events. some art shows can be quite good. i actually enjoy the flag raising ceremony at the TAM square in the morning and i am not even a chinese national :) followed by breakfast. beijing opera at lao she teahouse is good for me too. for dinner, i love the malaxiaolongxia at gueijie. i think this is better than the best i can find in shanghai. but it tends to upset my tummy coz it can gets pretty spicy. |

Odds and Ends of Today when you have been married for as long as I have (15 years) you learn to let the wife do the shopping with the other wives. just supply the credit cards and wait for the damage to be done :p in the meantime you can hang around borders (the bookshop) or funan centre/ sim lim square (computer shops) or starbucks. |

My New Laptop - Dell Latitue D600 carsten yeah, the A & R series are rather heavy. that is why i have always chosen the Ts. before that i was using the 570 which was pretty good too. my kid is using that now. lee, with the world it is now, virus checkers and defensive computing is a must. also set for windows to receive all updates. some of these updates are critical to protecting your system. in fact, am seriously considering that my next thinpad should be linux driven. sorry JS, microsoft should do a better job in protecting their users. i know that they try but ... what i understand from ibmers, linux installs really well on thinkpad with all the required drivers etc. thinkpad with linux and open office (www.openoffice.org) should be a killer comibination. the only thing that is keeping me back is that i have outlook synched with my SE P900. there seems to be no available synch program with any linux based pim :( |

Got Two Links (Gifts) Today "I am not 100% sure if I am comfortable with what the author described me in last page of the report. I am reported as a guy "who shies away from overt criticism of the government but treads the line rather closely". I am not the guy who makes living by criticizing the government. The life here is comfortable and the city is good. I love everything here. Sometimes there are blocks and server down, but.... anyway, it is the reality." don't worry about it, Jian Shou. most western media is still caught up with the TAM incident. they don't see and appreciate the improvement in the lives of millions of chinese over the years due to the stability and economic liberalization brought on by the Deng reforms. all in good time, i say to those who advocate political liberalization. i suspect that most of these people don't realize that chaos will bring about suffering to the majority of the ordinary people. |

Airport Construction Fee the airport fee in singapore is usually included in the airfare. the airlines collect the fee on behalf of the airport authority. i think it is about $20 or RMB90 michael |

Moving to the New Apartment hey, u get to rid the paint smell and have good luck at the same time, so why not LOL :) |

IKEA Becomes Cheap in China and the availability of cheap ice-cream and hotdogs is to give shoppers the idea that stuff in cheap and good. this is stationed outside the checkout counters. so after paying a heft amount for the shopping you look at the ice-cream and hotdogs and think "so cheap!" ;) michael |

Moving to the New Apartment in singapore, pineapples are considered lucky. the chinese of the hokkien (fujian) dialect usually roll a pineapple into the new apartment saying "ong lai" which means "good luck comes"! |
