Shanghai Looks Like a Modern City i never had to worry about those things while i was living in Shanghai. Come on, not get pushed on the metro station, not get snatched while using mobile, or not take a seat on the train? You will be surprised that people in Shanghai can do much better than this :-). |

Take Taxi or Buy a Car? public transportation combined with on-demand car rental , plus occasional taxi is the way to go. only when you go camping, outing for few days far away from the city, would you need a rental car. |

Jiading is Not As Far as I Thought When i was a student, i used to take buses from Jiading to Shanghai downtown every week. it was a luxury treat to take the buses going through freeway, since it's about 2RMB per ticket ( it went up to 10RMB last time i took the bus). the normal ticket price for local way only bus would be about 50cents ( or free if it's the bus provided by the school). it's pretty amazing that i now drives average 80 miles a day back and forth from home to work, and it average takes me 3 hours on the road every day. i always tell my wife that if i'm asked to work in Jiading and live in Shanghai downtown now, I will be pleased by the time i can save. but when i was a student, the trip from Jiading to downtown seems to be endless, even through the freeway :-) |

New Jersey Government Shutdown? IMHO, it's the vivid reflection of captalism. No money, no business, even true for government. UN was almost closed down due to lack of money, and another sample is that congress has to lift the credit limit of US federal government so that the Administration can borrow more money to run the country. otherwise... don't get me wrong, it's not a bad thing, and i believe every business should have a finite budget to run with ( and as a side note, i think everything is a business :-)) |

Diversity, Consistency, and Efficiency I think there're different local regulations for businesses in each state of USA too, though you may mean way more than local regulartions when you talked about "rules". basically, local ( local to a country, a region .etc) businesses need to play by the play everywhere. |

Old Shanghai vs Current Shanghai I didn't even have a decent camera in early 1980's. good to see the old places, especially the buses running on East NanJin Road :-) |

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) Look at the bright side, this tragedy is the step stone for the return of the Jedi, and the final peace ( final defeat of the sith). |

Just Few Steps Away from My New Car I second Lars that the gas consumption would be a very important fact you may need to consider. Typical acceptable mile/gal would be 20-30 mile/gal for a highway/local way combination usage. US cars are known to be super gas consumption, but very safe, and Japanese/Korean cars are relatively good in gas consumption, but less safty. |

Pudong or Puxi Puxi for sure. IMHO: puxi=decent life, pudong=investment. |
