6 Seat-Belt? Oh. No. Thanks!

it's rediculous, some drivers even disable seatbelt warning beeps on newer cars by slot the belt in it's socket then SIT ON the belt.

I think people like that have a death wish. As long as they only risk their own livesm i don't acre - the more get killed this way the more important people will realise how important sealbelt is.

I refuse to get on taxi's without seatbelts.

It's difficult in Chinese however - some Taxis have got no back seat belt at all! Sometimes I just refuse to get on and walked instead.

5 Foreign Job Seekers Move to Shanghai

I agree with DC - A significant number are quite racist in their views.

They also seem to confuce ethnic origin from nationality. "Chinese" seem to be interchangable between "of Chinese parenthood" and "Chinese citizen".

On the other hand I get quite embarassed and slight offput by people thinking I'm Japanese or Korean. I met people saying "Chinese don't dye hair of weird colours", or "Chinese don't get piecings and tattoos". As if All ethnic Chinese should come out from a mold and forbid to have any individuality.

3 Shanghai Metro Map and Timetable

Hi Mr Wang,

Chanced upon your website when I was researching for our first trip to Shanghai & Beijing during the last December holidays. Your detailed information about the trains shuttling between these 2 cities (and the photos) were very helpful. We were initially quite skeptical about the quality and service, but after checking out the info on your website, we decided to take the train anyway. And we enjoyed the trip tremendously! The trains saved us quite a bit of money and we made friends with our cabin mates as we took the 4-bedded soft sleeper.

And we found out the if we buy our tickets from the Shanghai Railway, the ticket price include a packed dinner.

Once again, thanks for your help and I look forward to more information being posted on your website.

2 Met with Dr. Weigend

I met with Weigend over 2003 ICML in D.C. We chatted in the lounge of the hotel for a while, and he was quite an interesting guy (should I say) in an unusual way, in any cases, very friendly.

Later, when he gave the keynote speech for KDD'03, I knew for the first time that the hottest search query on Amazon.com is "vibrator" at least as of the time he gave the speech. Hehe ... I didn't know if everyone else who attended such an academic-oriented conference, particularly ladies, might feel such revelation appropriate; but I feel that talked a volume about his personality.
